Therapeutic Indications

  • Adjuvant treatment of hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
  • May be prescribed after surgery and other primary treatment to reduce the risk of recurrence.
  • Extended adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer after completion of approximately five years of tamoxifen therapy, when considered appropriate by the oncologist.
  • First-line treatment of hormone receptor-positive or hormone receptor-unknown locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
  • May also be used when disease has progressed following prior anti-estrogen therapy.
  • Clinical benefit is established mainly for postmenopausal women with suitable hormone-sensitive breast cancer.
  • Treatment selection depends on menopausal status, receptor testing, disease stage, previous therapy, and specialist assessment.
  • LETROPAS should be used only on the prescription and supervision of an oncology specialist.

Action Mechanism & Clinical Use of LETROPAS

LETROPAS inhibits the aromatase enzyme, which is involved in the conversion of androgens into estrogen. In postmenopausal women, this can significantly reduce circulating estrogen levels.

Lowering estrogen can help control the growth of estrogen-dependent breast-cancer cells. Letrozole is therefore used as endocrine therapy rather than conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy.
